The ’55 model was so popular it set an industry production record: on April 28, 1955, Chevrolet built 7,902 cars in a single day. That year, Chevrolet sold over 1.7 million units, accounting for nearly 44% of the entire low-price car market in America. It was the “Hot One” that officially ended Ford’s long-standing dominance in the sales race.
