In Smethwick, a 14-year-old boy and his mum are being hailed as heroes after stepping in to save a helpless cat from a violent gang of boys.
The black and white cat — now affectionately named Bertie — was being hit with sticks, kicked, and thrown around when the teen courageously scooped him up in his arms and rushed him to safety. His mum quickly took him to the vet, and from there, Bertie was placed in the care of the RSPCA.
Despite a nasty tongue bite, a bloody nose, and facial injuries, Bertie is now safe and healing at the RSPCA Birmingham Animal Centre. 🏥🐱

RSPCA officers praised the boy’s bravery:
“He did so well to step in. This was a really nasty attack, but thanks to him, Bertie is safe and getting the love he deserves.”
Bertie isn’t chipped or neutered, but he’s friendly and clearly once belonged to someone. The RSPCA is now trying to track down both his possible owner — and the boys responsible for the cruel attack.
✨ One teen’s courage turned what could have been a tragedy into a story of hope. Thank you to this young hero and his mum for showing that kindness can change a life. ❤️
