1964 Dodge Polara
While the Hemi was technically available, it was essentially a race-only engine at this stage. Most high-performance Polaras on the street used the formidable 426 “Max Wedge” engine, which featured dual four-barrel carburetors and was a terror at local drag strips.
Because the 1964 Polara was relatively light compared to GM and Ford’s full-size cars, it became a favorite for NHRA drag racers. The “Ramchargers” racing team famously used a ’64 Dodge to dominate the Super Stock classes.
