1969 Dodge Hemi Charger 500

NASCAR competition drove Dodge to create this specialized aerodynamic variant, addressing the standard Charger’s high-speed deficiencies above 170 MPH on superspeedways. Creative Industries converted premium Charger R/T models under Chrysler’s direction, installing a flush-mounted grille and repositioned rear window to reduce drag.

Named both for the Daytona 500 and NASCAR’s 500-unit homologation requirement, actual production reached just 392 examples.

Among these limited-production machines, only 67 received the legendary 426 cubic inch Hemi V8 producing 425 horsepower from dual four-barrel carburetors and hemispherical cylinder heads. A mere 27 of those combined the Hemi with the A833 4-speed manual transmission, making this configuration exceptionally rare.

The A34 Super Track Pak package included a Dana 60 Sure Grip differential with 4.10 gearing, Hemi-grade suspension components, power steering, and heavy-duty power brakes with front discs. The Charger 500 competed successfully until the even more aerodynamic Charger Daytona arrived late in the 1969 racing season.
