1962 Studebaker Hawk
While most 1962 American cars still had bench seats and horizontal “strip” speedometers, the GT Hawk went full sports car.
It featured standard front bucket seats and a center console, which were rare luxury-sport items at the time.
The dashboard was styled like an aircraft cockpit, featuring a magnificent array of five large, circular gauges set into a real wood-grain (or engine-turned) panel.
The ’62 Hawk was powered by the 289-cubic-inch “Thunderbolt” V8. While it wasn’t the fastest car on the block, it was a true “Grand Tourer” designed for high-speed cruising. It was also one of the last Studebakers ever built at the historic South Bend, Indiana plant before production moved to Canada.
