1929 Chrysler Series 75 Roadster

Chrysler’s L-head inline-six with seven main bearings delivered competitive power from just 249 CI, smaller than most rivals yet matching their output through efficient design with lightweight pistons and an optional high-compression cylinder head.

The compact, powerful engine paired with lightweight bodywork gave the roadster performance that rivaled more expensive machinery.

The open two-seat roadster featured dual side-mounted spare wheels and a folding canvas top. Built-in radiator shutters, Lockheed hydraulic brakes, and Lovejoy shock absorbers came standard on a 121-inch wheelbase.

The engine produced 75 hp in standard form, or 84 hp with the high-compression head, mated to a three-speed manual transmission.

Priced at $1,550, Chrysler built 6,414 Series 75 Roadsters for 1929. The model proved its durability at Europe’s demanding endurance events, finishing sixth overall and winning the Index of Performance at the 1929 24 Hours of Le Mans, along with a class win in the under‑5.0‑liter category at that year’s Mille Miglia.
