1950 Oldsmobile 88 Club Coupe Street Rod

Arguably America’s first muscle car, the 1950 Oldsmobile 88 Club Coupe combined lightweight architecture with formidable power. The original model paired a small A-body platform with the revolutionary 303 cubic inch “Rocket” V8 engine, creating a performance package that dominated NASCAR circuits, winning 10 of 19 races in 1950. Stock models featured a Hydra-Matic transmission and were considered “the hottest automobile for the money” on American roads. This modified street rod takes that racing heritage to new heights with its 455ci Oldsmobile V8 producing 470 horsepower.

Built by Dave Hayward of California, it features thoughtful upgrades including Mustang II front suspension, four-wheel Wilwood disc brakes, and a boxed frame for added strength. While maintaining a stock “sleeper” exterior in powder blue, this award-winning custom has proven its ability through the 2,250-mile Route 66 Rally, combining classic styling with contemporary performance.
