Mama cat Lila sat in the park like she was guarding her whole world. Her body was thin, her eyes looked tired, and one tiny kitten hid under her belly, shaking. She didn’t run. She just stared, like she was silently begging someone to notice.

A few minutes later, more kittens stepped out of the grass, weak little legs wobbling, hungry and cold. Lila kept them close, trying so hard to stay brave. But then the rain came down hard, and the park turned into a nightmare.

When the man came back after work, Lila was shivering on the sidewalk with only two kittens beside her. The rest were missing, and her face looked completely broken.
