1966 Chevrolet Nova SS L79

Chevrolet offered an unassuming giant-killer when just 5,481 buyers checked the L79 option box on their 1966 Nova Super Sport order forms.

The L79 package installed a 327 cubic inch V8 producing 350 horsepower, capable of revving to nearly 6,000 rpm. At roughly 10 pounds per horsepower, the lightweight Nova could surprise owners of larger-engined competitors without advertising its capabilities through aggressive styling.

The razor-sharp restyle that year, influenced by the Super Nova concept car, delivered better-flowing proportions than earlier Chevy II models while keeping similar overall dimensions.

Two-door hardtop coupes featured all-vinyl interior trim with optional bucket seats, an electric clock, and SS badging that distinguished them from standard Nova models.

Total Nova Super Sport hardtop production reached 20,986 units, making the L79 variant a particularly rare find.
