1955 Rolls-Royce Phantom IV State Landaulette
Reserved strictly for royalty and heads of state, only 18 examples of this extraordinary automobile were built between 1950 and 1956 and it marked Rolls-Royce’s first venture into eight-cylinder production vehicles. The Phantom IV featured a 5,675cc straight-eight engine producing 162 horsepower and 282 lb-ft of torque, with power transmitted through either manual or automatic transmissions.
Built on an extended wheelbase measuring 12 feet 1 inch, these majestic vehicles were bodied primarily by H.J. Mulliner and Hooper & Co., with one example crafted by French coachbuilder Franay. Many Phantom IVs were configured as formal limousines or landaulettes, offering luxurious accommodations with custom features like special ventilation systems, power-operated windows, roof-mounted flagstaff mounts, and other bespoke amenities befitting their distinguished owners.
