1954 Talbot-Lago T26 GSL
Released at the 1953 Paris Salon, the French-built T26 GSL (Grand Sport Longue) represented a careful redesign of Talbot-Lago’s earlier models. A 4,482 cc inline six-cylinder engine produced 210 bhp, making it exceptionally powerful for its time. The car featured a Wilson four-speed pre-selector transmission that allowed for remarkably quick shifting compared to contemporary vehicles.
Anthony Lago developed this model by modifying the Lago Record chassis, shortening it to a 104-inch wheelbase and incorporating independent front coil-spring suspension that delivered excellent handling characteristics. The body design by Carlo Delaisse showcased elegant French styling.
Production was brief, lasting only about 12-18 months with approximately 19-21 units manufactured. Today, fewer than 13 examples remain, marking the final chapter of French luxury car manufacturing with the legendary T26 engine.
