General Motors launched completely redesigned full-size models across all divisions for 1959, with Buick introducing fresh nameplates to accompany the radical styling transformation.

Drawing its designation from a 1951 corporate dream car, the LeSabre represented the marque’s entry-level offering in a lineup that included the mid-range Invicta and flagship Electra.

Slanted headlights flanked a squared chrome grille up front, while Delta-wing fins and round taillights defined the rear profile. The design represented a clean break from the heavier ornamentation that characterized many mid-1950s American automobiles.

Body styles ranged from two-door convertibles to four-door station wagons, all riding a 123-inch wheelbase.

Power came from a 364-cubic-inch overhead-valve V-8 producing 250 horsepower at 4,400 rpm through a two-barrel carburetor. While a three-speed manual transmission came standard, most buyers opted for Buick’s Twin Turbine Dynaflow two-speed automatic.

The original 1959 body marked a dramatic stylistic departure for Buick, with 1960 bringing a noticeable facelift that refined the look while retaining the basic structure of the design.
