1950 Lancia Aurelia B50 Cabriolet

Unveiled at the 1950 Turin Motor Show, this hand-built convertible was designed by Gianni Lancia and talented engineer Vittorio Jano, featuring a truly groundbreaking 1754cc aluminum V6 engine. This technical marvel demonstrated Lancia’s trademark engineering excellence with hemispherical combustion chambers, innovative rear-mounted transaxle, and independent suspension for balanced weight distribution. Built on an extended 115-inch wheelbase chassis specifically designed for coachbuilders, the B50 featured exquisite Pinin Farina bodywork with impeccable craftsmanship evident in its precise shutlines and quality materials.

Between 1950 and 1952, approximately 265 examples were produced, each subtly different as they were built to order with custom details and finishes. Despite modest output of 56 horsepower, the Aurelia prioritized handling balance and driving refinement over raw speed, reflecting Lancia’s philosophy of creating sophisticated grand touring automobiles. With their fine detailing and exceptional finish quality, these cars represented Italy’s premier luxury choice of the era.
