1952 Mercedes-Benz 220 Cabriolet A
Part of the W187 series produced from 1951 to 1955, the 220 Cabriolet A marked Mercedes’ return to six-cylinder luxury cars after years of only manufacturing four-cylinder models following World War II. Its 2.2-liter inline-six generated 80 horsepower, allowing for speeds up to 90 mph (145 km/h), making it one of the fastest cars on German roads at the time.
The Cabriolet A was distinguished as a two-passenger convertible with a rear jump seat, compared to the four-passenger Cabriolet B model. With only 1,278 Cabriolet A models built during its production run, these hand-crafted automobiles commanded a 70% price premium over sedan versions.
