1955 Ford Country Sedan Wagon

Ford’s 1955 station wagon lineup included five variants, with the Country Sedan positioned between the entry-level Ranch Wagon and the flagship Country Squire.

The Country Sedan proved the most popular, offered in four-door six-passenger or nine-passenger configurations. While the Country Squire featured woodgrain appliqué, the Country Sedan delivered similar utility with cleaner exterior styling.

The 115.5-inch wheelbase Model 79B rode on coil spring independent front suspension and a live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs. Four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes provided stopping power.

Engine options included Ford’s new 223-cubic-inch I-block inline six or Y-block V-8 configurations. The 272-cubic-inch Y-block V-8 was rated at 162 horsepower, while the optional 292-cubic-inch Y-block V-8 generated up to 200 horsepower, depending on specification.

Transmissions included a three-speed manual (with optional overdrive) or Ford-O-Matic automatic. Available options included four-way power seats, power windows, Master Guide power steering, power brakes, a dashboard-mounted clock, AM radio, roof rack, and full wheel covers.
