In a prison in the U.S. state of Indiana, something has grown that almost no one would expect: a special cat program that’s changing lives on both sides of the walls.

There, inmates care for stray and abandoned cats. Day after day they feed them, groom them, give them attention, and take real responsibility. Along the way, they learn things you can’t get from books: patience, reliability, and compassion.

For the cats, the program means safety, warmth, and finally a secure place to be. For the men behind bars, it means something many of them have been missing for a long time: purpose, a calmer mind, and the experience of being needed. It shows that a little care doesn’t only rescue animals—it can also help people find their way back to life again.
