1966 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham
Cadillac separated the Fleetwood Brougham into its own distinct model in 1966, positioning it as America’s most expensive owner-driven luxury sedan with a base price of $6,695.
The four-door hardtop rode on a 133-inch wheelbase and featured clean styling that abandoned earlier tailfins for blade-type rear fenders and more formal, understated lines, with a padded vinyl roof distinguishing it from other Cadillacs on the same chassis.
The perimeter frame construction and long-wheelbase four-door hardtop body provided generous interior space. Walnut trim, lighted folding picnic tables for rear passengers, individual rear reading lamps, and carpeted footrests defined the upscale interior appointments that set the Brougham above the Fleetwood Sixty Special.
Power came from Cadillac’s proven 429 cubic inch V8 delivering 340 horsepower, paired with the three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission (THM 400) that was standard on the Brougham.
Production reached 13,630 units for the 1966 model year, with the Fleetwood Brougham selling alongside the less expensive Fleetwood Sixty Special, which shared the same extended 133-inch wheelbase but carried fewer standard luxury features.
