1940 Oldsmobile Series 60 Special Station Wagon
Only 633 buyers chose this wood-bodied wagon during its debut year, compared to over 29,000 sedans in the Series 60 line, making it one of America’s rarest factory station wagons. The wagon commanded the highest price in the Series 60 lineup at $1,042 (equivalent to roughly $23,400 today).
The beautifully crafted wooden body was built by Mid-State Body Company under their Hercules-Campbell subsidiary brand and shared basic construction with Chevrolet’s wagon.
Power came from a 230 cubic inch L-head inline-six engine producing 95 horsepower, paired with a 3-speed manual transmission, independent front suspension, and a live rear axle.
Despite being the entry-level Oldsmobile, the Series 60 accounted for over 36% of the company’s total 1940 production.
