Family Cat Surrendered After Almost Drowning In Washing Machine Where He Was Locked For SIX HOURS…
What happened to George is every cat parent’s nightmare. Cats are known to crawl into small spaces, to tuck themselves away where you can’t always find them. George’s owner hadn’t thought to double-check the washer when he put in a load of laundry before work, and a horrifying SIX HOURS later when the owner returned home, he opened the door to discover George wet, mangled, and – somehow – still alive.
His owner, in a state of shock, rushed him to a vet, but, after learning the level of care he would need, surrendered him. We understand not having the resources to do right by an animal, but we were open to helping the owner find a solution – they weren’t. Right then, we decided we couldn’t turn our backs on George.
George was barely alive when he arrived in our care—hypothermic, in shock, severely concussed, and struggling to breathe. His body temperature was dangerously low, and his injuries were extensive. The medical team moved fast to warm him up, and so far, he’s currently stable.
As of today, George is receiving heat support, warm IV fluids, medications to reduce brain swelling, antibiotics, pain management, and steroids. His eyes are swollen shut from trauma and exposure to detergent. His tail is broken, his sinuses are packed with bloody mucus, and he’s at high risk for pneumonia. He’s also receiving nebulizer treatments, nasal flushes, appetite stimulants, and laser therapy. His care is round-the-clock, and he’s fighting for every breath. But George isn’t giving up—and neither are we.
