1953 Mercedes-Benz 300 S Roadster
Representing the peak of 1950s luxury automotive craftsmanship, this ultra-exclusive model saw only 141 roadster examples produced between 1952 and 1955. Priced higher than the legendary 300 SL and nearly double a top-tier Cadillac, it ranked among the period’s most expensive automobiles.
Built entirely by hand at Stuttgart-Untertรผrkheim, the roadster featured flowing coachwork reminiscent of the prewar 540 K, complemented by a lavishly appointed interior with supple leather upholstery and burled walnut trim. Chrome-plated dashboard instrumentation and precision switchgear reflected Mercedes-Benz’s dedication to quality.
Power came from a sophisticated 2,996cc single-overhead-cam inline-six engine equipped with triple Solex carburetors, producing 150 horsepower at 5,000 rpm. This configuration delivered a top speed of 110 mph while maintaining the refined character expected of such an exclusive grand touring machine.
