1957 Austin A35 Pickup

Of the five body variants produced across the A35 range, the pickup stands as by far the scarcest. Just 477 were manufactured during the model’s two-year production window between 1956 and 1957, with a significant proportion exported at the outset to markets including Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.

Sharing its underpinnings with the sedan variants, the pickup used a unitary (monocoque) construction platform and was powered by the same 948cc A-Series four-cylinder producing 34 hp, paired with a four-speed manual gearbox.

The compact dimensions and light construction made it a practical small-capacity working vehicle, though its modest load bed limited commercial appeal against larger alternatives.

The A35 pickup was a direct development of the earlier A30-based load carrier, updated with the revised engine, flashing indicators, and other detail improvements that distinguished the A35 line from its predecessor. Its scarcity today is largely a consequence of hard working lives rather than high production figures.
