1972 Fiat 500L Lusso
Introduced as the luxury variant of FIAT’s beloved microcar, the Lusso represented the most well-appointed version of the 500 lineup during its 1968-1972 production run.
The interior featured anti-glare plastic dashboard covering instead of bare painted metal, along with a distinctive trapezoid instrument cluster replacing the traditional round design. Seating consisted of pleated leatherette upholstery, while exterior upgrades included redesigned chrome hubcaps and bright trim around the windscreen and rear window.
Additional chrome detailing and model-specific badging helped distinguish the Lusso from standard 500 variants.
Power came from the same 479cc rear-mounted, air-cooled twin-cylinder engine producing 18 horsepower, paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The 1972 model year marked the final production of this Italian city car icon before FIAT transitioned to the new 126 model.
