1963 Triumph Vitesse Sports 6 Convertible
Twin headlamps created a distinctive “slant-eyed” appearance that made the Triumph Vitesse instantly recognizable when it debuted in May 1962.
Built on the Herald’s chassis with elegant Michelotti bodywork, the convertible featured a reworked front end that set it apart from its four-cylinder sibling.
The Vitesse’s six-cylinder 1.6-liter engine delivered performance that could surprise sports car owners of the era. It made 70bhp at 5,000 rpm and was mated to a 4-speed manual transmission.
For the American market, Triumph produced fewer than 700 limited-edition Speed 6 Vitesse examples with left-hand drive configuration. These specialized variants commanded a substantial $2,499 price tag when new, reflecting their exclusivity and export market positioning.
