Around 5:00 AM, Allysa John‑Hall woke to her 5‑month‑old kitten, Nina, meowing and nudging her—at first, she thought it was just playtime. But after letting Nina out, she returned to a hallway filled with dense, black smoke. That early wake-up call turned out to be their saving grace.
🔥 Flames were erupting from the basement, quickly spreading and filling the house with choking smoke. The entire family—Allysa, her husband Marc, and their four children—managed to flee just in time. Guided by Nina’s urgency, they escaped with only their lives, thanks to their tiny guardian.

😿 Tragically, Nina didn’t survive. She had dashed back inside—believed to be searching for her favorite child’s room—where she was later found. The family believes she returned to make sure everyone was truly safe.
🌳 They buried Nina in their backyard and plan to plant a tree in her memory, memorializing her love and courage every year.
