She squeezed in, but she couldn’t squeeze back out.
John, a one-year-old black cat, decided to explore a drainpipe in her owner’s garage ceiling in Clevedon, Somerset. It didn’t go as planned.
On November 23, 2024, her owner Cassie discovered her pet completely wedged inside the pipe. John’s head was poking out one end. The rest of her was trapped inside. She couldn’t move forward or backward.

Cassie called for help. Firefighters from Clevedon Fire Station arrived and carefully assessed the situation. They realized they’d have to cut the pipe to free her.
The crew removed the entire section of drainpipe with John still stuck inside. Then they loaded her pipe and all into their fire truck and drove straight to Vets4Pets Clevedon.
Cassie remembers the stares in the waiting room. A cat. In a pipe. With firefighters. It wasn’t a normal Saturday.

The fire crew worked gently to extract John from the tube. The vet checked her over. No injuries. No pain. Just one very relieved cat and one very grateful owner.
John went home safe that same day. Curiosity didn’t kill this cat, but it definitely gave her owner a scare.
If you’ve ever had a curious pet get themselves into an impossible situation, you know that mix of panic and disbelief. Sometimes the best thing you can do is call for help and trust the process.
John’s safe now. And maybe, just maybe, she’ll think twice before crawling into tight spaces again.
