1934 Ford 3-Window Coupe
Ford refined its Model 40 design for 1934 with a flatter, more streamlined grille featuring bolder vertical bars, smaller headlamps and cowl lamps, revised hubcaps, and an updated V-8 hood ornament.
The three-window coupe carried particular distinction as a DeLuxe-only offering (unlike the five-window counterpart which was offered in Standard and DeLuxe trim).
Under the hood, engineers fitted a new Stromberg two-barrel carburetor to replace the previous Detroit Lubricator single-throat unit, paired with a redesigned air cleaner. These modifications boosted the 221 cubic inch L-head flathead V-8 from 75 to 85 horsepower. Power was delivered through a three-speed manual transmission to a live rear axle.
The chassis utilized a 112-inch wheelbase with a solid front axle and transverse semi-elliptic leaf springs at both ends. Four-wheel mechanical drum brakes provided stopping power. DeLuxe models featured pinstriping, twin chromed horns, dual taillights, and elaborate woodgraining on interior trim panels.
The relatively light body combined with Fordโs flathead V-8 delivered performance that exceeded most contemporary automobiles, contributing to the modelโs enduring popularity among collectors and hot rod builders.
