1941 Chrysler Town and Country Six-Passenger ‘Barrelback’
Introduced as part of the Windsor six-cylinder line, this unique vehicle featured a metal front section paired with wooden rear bodywork, creating its nickname “Barrelback” due to the rounded rear styling. Powered by a 242 cubic inch L-head inline six-cylinder engine producing 108 horsepower, the Town and Country utilized Chrysler’s Vacamatic semi-automatic Fluid Drive transmission. Available in both six and nine-passenger configurations, only 996 examples were manufactured in total. The design included twin hinged “clamshell” doors at the rear, opening to reveal substantial cargo space while maintaining an elegant fastback profile and luxurious interior appointments with varnished wood trim.
