Meet the Peel P50, the automotive world’s answer to the question “What if we made a car that’s basically a motorized phone booth?” This tiny marvel holds the Guinness World Record for smallest production car ever made. How small? Well, it’s so compact that instead of a reverse gear, it comes with a handle on the back so you can just pick it up and turn it around!

Built by Peel Engineering in the early 1960s, this microcar packs a mighty 4.5-horsepower engine (yes, you read that right) and can zoom along at a blistering top speed of 38 mph. The company advertised it as being “almost cheaper than walking” at Β£199 (about $250), and with fuel economy approaching 100 mpg, they weren’t entirely joking.

Only 47 of these three-wheeled wonders were ever produced between 1962 and 1965, with fewer than 30 surviving today. Despite its diminutive size, the P50 proved surprisingly roomy – even accommodating 6’5″ former Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson in a memorable drive through BBC headquarters.
