1948 Chevrolet Fleetmaster “Woodie” Station Wagon

As the premium offering in Chevrolet’s lineup, these eight-passenger wagons commanded a substantial base price of $2,013. The interior showcased fine burlwood dash elements, chrome accents, and a wooden roof that created a distinctive lighting effect inside the cabin.

The distinguishing characteristic of this Fleetmaster wagon is its magnificent wooden bodywork, with ash framing and mahogany panels requiring significant maintenance. Chevrolet manufactured 10,171 units, but according to the National Woodie Club, fewer than 100 survive today.

Originally popular among wealthy families, these vehicles later became icons in surfing culture. Many examples were modified for cargo, but original configurations retained three rows of seating accommodating up to eight passengers.

Powered by a 216ci Inline 6-Cylinder engine producing 90bhp, this rear-wheel drive vehicle featured a 3-speed manual transmission and hydraulic drum brakes.
