1967 Ford Mustang GT390 Fastback

The GT390 package combined Ford’s big-block V8 with the fastback body style and upgraded mechanical components. The sloping roofline was complemented by fog lamps integrated into the grille and GT stripes along the lower body (which were frequently removed by owners). Wide-oval F70-14 tires on styled steel wheels filled the arches, while power front disc brakes came standard with the GT Equipment Group.

Under the hood sat Ford’s 390 CI “Thunderbird Special” V8, a four-barrel FE-series big-block rated at 320 horsepower. Transmission choices included a four-speed manual or three-speed Cruise-O-Matic automatic. Heavy-duty suspension components supported the additional power and weight of the larger engine.

Ford produced approximately 12,135 fastbacks equipped with the 390 engine for 1967. The package added $150 over standard V8 options, making it the top factory performance choice in the Mustang range before the 428 Cobra Jet appeared for 1968.
