1936 MG NB (more pics below 👇)

MG’s final overhead-camshaft sports car arrived as a refined evolution of the N-type Magnette series. Just 98 two-seater NB models were produced from late 1935 through mid-1936, making this variant particularly scarce among the 745 total N-types built.

The NB featured forward-hinged doors and a distinctive slatted radiator grille that differentiated it from the earlier NA.

Underneath the compact bodywork sat a 1,271 cc (77.6-cubic-inch) inline-six with overhead-camshaft architecture derived from the Wolseley Hornet. A revised cylinder head design and twin SU carburetors generated 56 horsepower at 5,500 rpm, representing a noticeable increase over the previous K-Type powerplant.

This output enabled the lightweight sports car to reach approximately 80 mph. Power transferred through a close-ratio four-speed manual gearbox that lacked synchromesh.

The chassis departed from MG’s traditional ladder-frame design, employing a tapered structure wider at the rear, with body panels mounted to outriggers on rubber bushings. This configuration improved both handling dynamics and ride quality compared to earlier models.
