1960-2000 Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato Sanction III Coupé

Only 19 examples of Britain’s answer to Ferrari’s 250 GT SWB were constructed between 1960 and 1963, with hand‑beaten thin‑gauge aluminum bodywork styled by Ercole Spada at Carrozzeria Zagato in Milan.

The distinctive coachwork featured a smaller oval grille and cleaner tail that eliminated the DB4’s rear fins, creating a more aerodynamic profile than the standard DB4GT; all 19 original cars are believed to survive today.

Under the hood sat a 3.7‑liter aluminum inline‑six with triple Weber carburetors and a twin‑cam, twin‑plug head, officially rated at about 314 horsepower. Famous drivers including Stirling Moss, Jim Clark, and Roy Salvadori campaigned these cars at venues such as Le Mans and Goodwood with mixed but memorable results.

Nearly three decades later, Aston Martin authorized two small continuation series. Four Sanction II cars were completed between 1991 and 1992, followed by two Sanction III examples finished in 2000.

These factory‑approved continuations featured enlarged 4.2‑liter engines producing about 352 horsepower and significantly more torque, along with updated suspension and braking compared to the 1960s originals.

Richard Williams and RS Williams Ltd. oversaw both projects through Aston Martin Works Service, using DB4 chassis converted to GT Zagato specification and chassis numbers that had been reserved but never built in period.

This particular example sold for approximately $1.37 million in 2025.
