1957 Ford Fairlane 500 “White Pearl”
Ford’s 1957 redesign gave the Fairlane 500 one of the most distinctive silhouettes in the domestic market that year, featuring pronounced tail fins, a longer and lower roofline, and a two-tone color sweep along the flanks that became closely associated with the nameplate.
Available in several body styles (including two- and four-door hardtops, sedans, and a convertible), the Fairlane 500 sat at the top of Ford’s lineup for the model year.
Engine options ranged from the base 272 cubic-inch V-8 to the 292 and the high-output 312, the latter available in dual four-barrel carburetor form rated at 270 horsepower, or a supercharged version producing 300 horsepower. A three-speed manual, overdrive manual, or Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission handled power delivery.
The 1957 Fairlane 500 arrived at a moment of intense competition between Detroit’s Big Three, and its combination of bold styling and available performance made it a natural starting point for customizers and performance enthusiasts throughout the late 1950s and into the following decade.
