1966 Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman Landaulet
The Mercedes-Benz 600 was the top-tier luxury automobile in its class during nearly 20 years of production (1963 to 1981), favored by celebrities including Elvis Presley and Rowan Atkinson.
This specific 600 Pullman Landaulet, one of just 33 built in this four-door configuration (59 Landaulets in total), was delivered on September 29, 1966.
The 600 featured a 6.3-liter M100 V-8 producing 250 horsepower (247 hp SAE gross), and it was Mercedes-Benz’s first postwar production passenger car powered by a V-8.
Technical innovations including air suspension, four-wheel disc brakes with a dual-circuit system, central locking, a complex high-pressure hydraulic system operating the windows, seats, sunroof, and trunk, and automatic heating and ventilation were all part of the package.
Initially owned by Daimler-Benz A.G., this black-over-cognac example transported numerous dignitaries, including Vice President Hubert Humphrey, Queen Elizabeth II, and the Apollo 11 astronauts. Its grand presence and comfort (with curb weight around 7,275 pounds) made it an exceptional vehicle for diplomatic functions.
