1973 Land Rover Series III

The Series III represented the culmination of Land Rover’s original utility vehicle design that began in post-World War II Britain. Manufactured from 1971 to 1985, this model maintained the iconic boxy profile while incorporating modest improvements over its predecessors.

Powered typically by a variety of engine options including 2.25-liter petrol and diesel variants, the Series III offered basic but reliable transportation with legendary off-road capability. Its aluminum body panels mounted on a steel chassis provided reasonable corrosion resistance in difficult conditions.

Many surviving examples have been modified with upgrades addressing the original vehicle’s limitations. Common improvements include more powerful modern diesel engines, upgraded transmissions with better highway gearing, enhanced heating systems, and interior refinements for greater comfort.

The Series III’s simple, utilitarian design featured minimal instrumentation, basic seating, and straightforward controls. Available in multiple body configurations including soft-top, hard-top, and station wagon variants, these vehicles served diverse purposes from military applications to agricultural work.
