Marcel Leyat, a French aviation engineer, applied his expertise to automobiles in the early 20th century. He created the Helica, a propeller-driven car that simplified design for improved efficiency. The Helica featured a propeller attached directly to the engine’s drive shaft and used lightweight plywood for aerodynamics. Despite impressive performance, it had practical issues like obstructed views and safety concerns. Only 30 were produced before Leyat ran out of funds in 1926.
