The foot of a Harpy Eagle is one of the largest and most powerful of any eagle in the world.

Talon length: Up to 12–13 cm (about 5 inches) — similar in size to a grizzly bear’s claws.

Foot span: Large enough to wrap completely around a human forearm.

Grip strength: Powerful enough to crush bones and seize prey like monkeys and sloths straight from the canopy.

Its massive rear talon (the hallux claw) is especially formidable — built for piercing and locking into prey with crushing force.

A predator of the rainforest canopy… carried by feet that look almost prehistoric.
