1958 Continental Mark III Convertible
Introduced as part of Ford’s luxury lineup, the 1958 Continental Mark III Convertible ranked among the largest American automobiles of its time. Riding on a 131-inch wheelbase with an overall length of 229 inches (just over 19 feet), these massive cars weighed around 5,000 pounds.
Power came from a 430 cubic-inch MEL V8 rated at 375 horsepower, paired with a 3-speed Turbo-Drive automatic transmission. Only 3,048 convertibles were produced for 1958, making this model relatively scarce today.
The distinctive styling featured canted quad headlights, giving it a unique front-end appearance. Available options included power-operated windows, seats, and a power convertible top.
Despite marketing efforts to position Continental as a separate brand, the 1958 models were built at Ford’s Wixom, Michigan plant alongside Lincoln models, sharing core body structure and mechanical architecture with the standard Lincoln lineup.
