1961 Chrysler 300 G Convertible
Representing the dramatic finale of Chrysler’s famous “big fin” letter series, this limited-production convertible displayed some of the most extravagant styling elements ever applied to an American luxury car.
Distinctive angled quad headlights arranged inward at the bottom framed the egg-crate grille, while prominent fins started midway through the doors and rose dramatically rearward.
With only 337 convertibles produced among 1,617 total letter cars for 1961, exclusivity came at a premium $5,841 base price.
Power came from a 413 cubic-inch “Wedge” V-8 producing either 375 horsepower standard or 400 horsepower optional, both featuring Ram induction intake manifolds. A specially-prepared 300G achieved 143 mph at the Daytona Flying Mile, demonstrating the model’s serious performance credentials.
This luxury performance machine marked the end of an automotive design philosophy that would never return to American roads.
