1957 Buick Roadmaster
By 1957, Buick was marketing the Roadmaster less as a performance car than as a symbol of effortless success, directing advertising copy like “Proud choice of the man who carries success with ease” at a younger professional audience.
That positioning sat alongside genuine capability: the standard 364 CI Nailhead V-8 produced 300 horsepower (SAE gross), though Buick treated the figure more as a quiet amenity than a headline claim.
The exterior carried the full range of brightwork expected from Buick’s flagship line, with distinctive roof and trunk moldings among the distinguishing details. Chrome wire wheels and wide whitewalls pushed the look toward the ornate without tipping into excess.
Inside, two-tone upholstery mirrored the exterior color scheme, and the equipment list included power steering, power brakes, a Wonderbar radio, heater, defroster, and in-dash clock. The Roadmaster’s curb weight was approximately 4,400 lbs, depending on body style.
A dual exhaust gave the Nailhead some presence underway without disrupting the car’s composed character. Production reached 16,123 units for the 1957 model year across all Roadmaster body styles.
