1956 Fiat Series 306/2 Grand Prix Transporter

This custom-built hauler began life as a Fiat bus chassis modified by Bartoletti of Italy to carry racing cars for the Maserati Formula One team, helping transport Juan Manuel Fangio’s championship-winning 250F. The massive vehicle later served Lance Reventlow’s ambitious Scarab racing program before finding its most famous role with Carroll Shelby’s operation, where it received a third axle to accommodate the heavier Cobra Daytona Coupes during their European campaign. Its impressive pedigree continued with stints supporting Lotus, David Piper, and Alan Mann racing teams before gaining screen time in Steve McQueen’s film “Le Mans.”

Powered by an 11.5-liter Leyland turbocharged six-cylinder diesel engine paired with a five-speed transmission, this unique transporter underwent an extraordinary 8,000-hour restoration to return it to its Shelby American livery, preserving a vital link in American and European racing heritage.
