1947 Packard Custom Super Clipper Club Sedan
The two-door Custom Super Clipper Club Sedan represented Packard’s most exclusive body style for 1947, combining luxury car appointments with sporty coupe proportions in extremely limited numbers.
Fewer than 20 Packard Custom Super Clipper Club Sedans are known to exist today from that year, making this model extraordinarily scarce among collectors of American classics.
It featured Packard’s largest engine, a 165-horsepower 356-cubic-inch straight eight with a nine-main-bearing crankshaft and hydraulic valve lifters. This powerplant delivered refined performance through a three-speed manual transmission with available Econo-Drive overdrive, making these cars popular for comfortable, long-distance touring.
The Custom Super Clipper featured distinctive luxury appointments including special carpeting, broadcloth and leather upholstery, and imitation wood paneling. Built on a 127-inch wheelbase, the Club Sedan offered sporty two-door styling while maintaining traditional Packard comfort and craftsmanship.
They were (and are) respected as top-level luxury cars, having attained Milestone status with the Milestone Car Society and Full Classic status with the Classic Car Club of America (CCCA), making the Custom Super Clipper one of the few postwar American cars to achieve such recognition.
