1955 Buick Century Riviera

Sports car styling and serious power defined this hardtop beauty from General Motors’ premium division. The 1955 Buick Century Riviera combined a relatively short 122-inch wheelbase with Buick’s most potent engine, creating an appealing blend of maneuverability and performance.

Under the hood sat a 322 cubic inch Fireball V8 generating 236 horsepower, giving the Century genuine muscle in an era of growing automotive performance.

The pillarless Riviera hardtop design eliminated the traditional B-pillar, creating an open, airy greenhouse and a contemporary appearance that attracted buyers.

Available in both two-door and four-door configurations, the Century Riviera proved popular with American consumers. Production reached 80,338 units for the two-door model and 55,034 for the four-door version.

With a base price around $2,600, it positioned itself as an accessible entry into Buick’s performance-oriented offerings during the mid-1950s automotive boom.
