1962 Triumph TR4 Roadster
British sports car manufacturer Triumph introduced the TR4 in 1961 as a modern departure from previous TR models, featuring distinctive styling by renowned Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti.
The roadster represented a significant evolution in the TR series with its more aggressive appearance and contemporary lines that set it apart from earlier, more traditional designs.
The TR4’s exterior showcased a roomier cockpit and sleeker profile compared to its predecessors, offering improved comfort without sacrificing the classic British roadster appeal. Painted wire wheels with chrome knock-offs were a popular option that enhanced the car’s sporty character.
One of the TR4’s most distinctive features was the optional Surrey top, an innovative removable center panel system that functioned as an early Targa-style roof.
This allowed drivers to enjoy open-air motoring while maintaining the structural benefits of a hardtop when needed, making the TR4 particularly versatile for various driving conditions.
Under the hood, the TR4 was powered by a 2.1-liter inline four-cylinder engine paired with a four-speed manual transmission, delivering solid performance and excellent handling characteristics.
The engine produced approximately 105 horsepower. Front disc brakes provided reliable stopping power, a notable upgrade for the era. The TR4 weighed about 2,100 pounds.
