1972 Pontiac LeMans Sport

As the muscle car era came to a close, this intermediate Pontiac offered one final taste of performance and style before stricter emissions regulations changed everything. The LeMans Sport was available as a two-door hardtop or convertible, with the convertible starting at around $3,225. Pontiac produced 3,438 Sport Convertibles that year.

The LeMans Sport featured Strato bucket seats and interior trim from the Luxury LeMans. Special features included ‘Sport’ signature scripts, custom door and rear quarter trim, a special front fender nameplate, and bucket seats. Engine options ranged from a 250 cubic-inch inline six-cylinder to V8s up to 455 cubic inches, with the top 455 V8 rated at 300 gross horsepower (but about 220 net horsepower due to new SAE net ratings introduced that year)

For 1972, the GTO was changed from a separate series back to an option package on LeMans and LeMans Sport coupes, making this one of the last affordable ways to experience genuine American muscle car performance.
