Lost Dog Found with a Heartbreaking Note Finds Hope and Love Again

In the quiet town of Bridgend, South Wales, a small brown-and-white dog hid among the tangled weeds, trembling and exhausted.

No one knew how long he had been running, but it was clear he had lost everything familiar. His eyes darted at every sound, searching for someone who would not come.

Lost and Alone in the Brush

It was luck, or maybe fate, that three cyclists happened to pass by. As they rode through a narrow lane, a flicker of movement in the bushes caught their attention.

They slowed, then stopped, realizing it was a frightened little dog staring back at them.

HOPE RESCUE

Without hesitation, they abandoned their ride, softly calling out in hopes of gaining his trust. After a few moments of gentle coaxing, the trembling pup allowed them close enough to scoop him into safety.

The group quickly contacted Hope Rescue, a local shelter known for giving second chances to animals in need.

When rescuers examined the dog, they noticed a small plastic bag taped carefully to his collar. Inside was a handwritten note that made everyone pause. Whoever left him behind had wanted him to be found.

A Heartbreaking Message

At the shelter, the team carefully removed the note and read the words that changed how they saw this little soul. The message was simple and honest, written by someone who clearly loved him but felt they had no choice.

“My name is Chase. I am 1 year old November 10. I am very friendly and kind, good with kids. I need a new home as my owner cannot take care of me. Please help me. Thank you.”

HOPE RESCUE

The note broke every heart in the room. It wasn’t just an abandonment — it was a cry for help, both from the person who wrote it and the dog who carried it.

Staff members had seen many dogs arrive at their doors, but very few carried such a painful piece of their past.

Hope Rescue’s head of operations, Sara Rosser, explained that the shelter had faced one of its busiest months ever. “We took in over 150 dogs in August alone,” she said.

“When Chase arrived, we could see how scared he was. It’s always difficult, because we understand that sometimes people are desperate. But leaving him out there like that could have ended differently. We were so thankful he was found when he was.”

HOPE RESCUE

Though he was now safe, Chase’s fear ran deep. He curled up tightly in the corner of his kennel, refusing to eat or even lift his head.

The shelter team gave him time and space, speaking to him softly every day, showing him that not everyone would leave.

Finding Light Again

Days passed before Chase dared to take food from a volunteer’s hand. His body relaxed slightly each time someone entered his space, and soon, the team noticed tiny signs of trust.

They decided to introduce him to two calm, friendly dogs already in their care — companions who could teach him that the world wasn’t so frightening after all.

It worked. Watching his new friends play seemed to spark something inside him. He began to follow their lead, wagging his tail just a little when they ran around him. When he moved into a foster home, the transformation truly began.

His foster parents already had two confident dogs, and from the very first night, Chase found comfort lying beside them.

HOPE RESCUE

For the first time in weeks, he slept soundly. Slowly, he began to explore the garden, paddle in the shallow water nearby, and accept gentle cuddles from his caregivers. Each day, his walls came down a little more.

“Seeing him start to trust again is incredible,” said one of his foster carers. “He’s playful, curious, and so affectionate once he knows you’re safe.”

Now, weeks later, Chase’s eyes sparkle with the joy of a dog rediscovering life. His fear has turned into affection, his silence into happy barks.

What began as a story of loss is becoming one of healing and belonging.

A New Beginning

Today, Chase remains with his foster family — though “foster” may soon no longer describe them.

The bond between them grows stronger every day, and it’s clear he has found the place where he truly belongs.

HOPE RESCUE

“Chase’s future is looking so bright,” Rosser said. “After everything he’s been through, he’s finally surrounded by people who understand him and love him for who he is.”

From a scared little dog trembling in the bushes to a joyful companion learning to trust again, Chase’s journey is a reminder that love can find its way back, even after heartbreak.

And for the people who found him, rescued him, and helped him heal, Chase is living proof that kindness still changes lives.
