1960 Dodge Polara Hardtop Sedan

Debuting as Dodge’s flagship model, this full-size luxury car represented the culmination of Virgil Exner’s dramatic “Forward Look” design philosophy. Built on a substantial 122-inch wheelbase, the Polara was offered in multiple body configurations, including the pillarless four-door hardtop sedan.

The 1960 model year marked the first time all Chrysler Corporation vehicles (except Imperial) adopted unibody construction, eliminating the traditional separate frame. Distinctive styling featured prominent reverse tailfins housing β€œjet pod” taillights, with the lower lamps integrated into the rear bumper.

Standard power came from a 361-cubic-inch β€œRam Fire” V8 rated at 295 horsepower, while optional 383-cubic-inch V8s produced 325 or 330 horsepower depending on carburetion. The innovative TorqueFlite automatic transmission featured distinctive push-button controls mounted on the dashboard.

As Dodge’s premium offering, the Polara included deluxe interior appointments and represented the pinnacle of the brand’s 1960 lineup. Total production reached 42,517 units across all Polara body styles, making these elegant hardtop sedans increasingly collectible today.
