1982 Lamborghini Countach LP5000 S
Representing Lamborghini’s breakthrough into the American market, this mid-engine supercar marked a pivotal moment for the Italian manufacturer following its emergence from bankruptcy.
Introduced in 1982, the LP5000 S featured Lamborghini’s enlarged 4.8-liter V12 engine producing 375 horsepower while meeting stricter U.S. emissions standards. This model helped establish America as Lamborghini’s largest customer base.
The LP5000 S maintained Marcello Gandini’s revolutionary wedge-shaped design with its signature scissor doors and dramatic angular bodywork that had stunned the automotive world since 1971.
Most examples used six Weber carburetors, though some featured Bosch fuel injection systems to meet American regulations. The model bridged the gap between earlier pure performance variants and later more refined versions, representing Lamborghini’s adaptation to global markets while preserving the Countach’s legendary presence and capabilities.
