Owls tilting their heads might look cute or mysterious… but it’s actually a precision hunting trick 👀
The main reason is that an owl’s eyes can’t move like ours. Their eyes are tube-shaped and fixed in place, so they can’t look side to side. To focus on something — especially prey — they have to move or tilt their head to change the viewing angle.

Better depth perception: tilting helps them judge distance more accurately by seeing from slightly different angles
Superior hearing: their ears are asymmetrical, so changing head position helps pinpoint sounds with incredible precision, even in total darkness
