1969 Datsun Fairlady Z432
Japan’s most exclusive Z-car variant arrived in late 1969 as a high-performance homologation special designed to showcase Nissan’s racing capabilities. The Z432 featured distinctive “432” badges on the front fenders but otherwise looked nearly identical to the standard Fairlady Z, with its long-hood power bulge, fastback profile, and wide rectangular front intake.
Under the hood sat the same 1,989cc S20 twin-cam inline-six engine found in the Skyline GT-R, producing 160 horsepower at 7,000 rpm. The “432” designation referred to the engine’s four valves per cylinder, three carburetors, and two camshafts. Standard equipment included a close-ratio five-speed manual transmission, a limited-slip differential, and lightweight magnesium wheels.
Only about 420 examples were produced between 1969 and 1973, each costing nearly twice the price of a regular Z-car. Performance figures included a top speed of around 130 mph and 0-60 mph acceleration in about 8 seconds.
Never officially imported to America, the Z432 remains one of Japan’s most sought-after classic sports cars.
